Ellis Pines is the Vice President of Branding at TMP Government and the Senior Brand Counselor at TMP Worldwide. He currently leads branding efforts for TMP's Metro Washington office as well as select initiatives in TMP's global organization. Major areas of his expertise are in B2B, especially in technology, energy, aviation, finance, law enforcement, any organization with complex offerings that are marketed to business and technical audiences, B2G especially professional services, aerospace and defense, information technology, law enforcement and employer branding for private and public sector organizations as well as non-profits, most of whom need to attract hard-to-hire business, technical and healthcare professionals. TMP builds research-based brands. Consequently, at the commencement of an engagement, his role consists largely of designing and managing a discovery process. This process may encompass extensive materials and plans audits, leadership interviews, executive round tables, internal and external focus groups, online surveys, outreach and opinion leader interviews, etc. In 1998, TMP Worldwide purchased Stackig Advertising and PR, the second largest ad agency in metropolitan Washington. At Stackig he had served in three roles: SVP, Creative Services; SVP, Aerospace & Defense Group-Creative and Strategy; and SVP, Strategic Services. TMP's purchase let to the participation in Monster.com, which had newly emerged from incubation to become a top 20 Internet brand. Ellis then moved from creative into brand management and strategic messaging, serving a wide range of clients. One of Ad Age's Top Digital Agencies, TMP emphasizes technology as a tool for forging relationships between audiences and clients. Ellis began as a copywriter at Leo Burnett-Chicago and later at Weber Cohn & Riley. He then moved to Washington to work for GE's in-house agency network. His specialization remains communications change management: truing mind-sets at critical junctures in an organization's life, using competitive intelligence and marketing research management as well as hands-on, strategic advertorial, social and editorial writing. Ellis holds a BSc in Communications from Northwestern University.
Dave Sorin is the managing partner of McCarter’s East Brunswick office and the head of the Venture Capital & Emerging Growth Companies practice. He focuses his practice primarily on privately- and publicly-owned startup, early stage, emerging growth, and middle market technology, tech-enabled and life science enterprises, as well as the investors, executives, and boards of directors who support and lead them. Dave has a long track record of successful representation of growth companies, having been repeatedly recognized by well-known periodicals for a unique combination of legal acumen and sound business judgment. He also brings to bear his broad range of knowledge and experience in counseling enterprises and investors in diverse emerging growth markets, technology industries (including software, information technology, e-commerce, cybersecurity and communications), and life sciences. Many of the companies he represents are well-known names throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. One industry-leading publication has recognized Dave as one of New Jersey’s top 100 business people, categorizing him within an "elite group" of executives who "are the voices of their industries." He was later identified by another industry publication as one of the region’s "top deal makers." Chambers USA, an international guide to lawyers and law firms, called Dave the State’s top corporate lawyer. Most recently, SmartCEO Magazine named McCarter the large law firm of the year in the tech and tech-enabled industry sector and named Dave the leading lawyer in the industry. Dave co-founded the law firm of SorinRand in 2009, was Managing Partner of the New Jersey and New York law offices of Buchanan Ingersoll Professional Corporation and of the Princeton office of Hale & Dorr LLP (now WilmerHale LLP), as well as a corporate practice area Vice-Chair. In addition, he served as a Clinical Associate Professor of Law at Drexel University, teaching Entrepreneurial Law, Legal Issues for Start-Ups, Venture Capital and Corporate Governance. He also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Seton Hall University School of Law, teaching Accounting for Lawyers and Mergers & Acquisitions. He began his legal career at Davis Polk & Wardwell. The realities of the 21st century economy and rigorous analysis of the business and legal marketplace convinced Dave that service to startup, early stage, emerging growth and middle market enterprises is largely incompatible with the cost infrastructure, high leverage, and fee schedules generally associated with today’s law firm model. He and his partners founded SorinRand to meet the new business realities head-on, reinventing law firm practice to help clients achieve their goals, sensibly. Together, they joined McCarter & English to leverage McCarter’s geographical scale, size, and breadth of services to provide clients the many disciplines they require throughout their business lifecycles, while retaining the unique delivery model and value proposition offered by SorinRand. Dave, who is a frequent speaker, panelist, and author on issues of interest to the emerging growth and middle market sectors, also is a Certified Public Accountant. Professional Accomplishments: Named Leading Lawyer in the Tech and Tech-Enabled Industry Sector by SmartCEO; Named one of New Jersey’s Best Lawyers by New Jersey Monthly Magazine, 2012-2015; Inducted into the New Jersey Technology Council Hall of Fame, 2011; Named to the Legal Elite, 2012-2015; Named Best Attorney for Growing Businesses by New York Enterprise Report, 2011; Named a Super Lawyer in both Metro NY and NJ in Securities & Corporate Finance, Business/Corporate, Mergers & Acquisitions in 2012-2015; A national leader in the representation of issuers in Initial Public Offerings, rated #1 in New Jersey from 1993-2006; Nationally-ranked practice for the representation of "Hot Growth" America (#2 in 2000); Recipient of the NJTC John H. Martinson Technology Supporter Award
